My Story
When someone coaches careers for a living, it’s helpful I think to know a bit about their own career.
I am particularly fascinated by two topics: self-knowledge and self-fulfillment. Both of which, as a Career Coach, I get to indulge in every day. Be that helping a client to discover their core values or to craft career goals that realise their full potential.
Despite studying both topics in depth at Oxford University, the chances of finding a job in either appeared slim. And so, like many ambitious graduates, I followed the popular path into consulting and joined a firm called dunnhumby - the customer analytics powerhouse behind the Tesco Clubcard and many other retail loyalty schemes. After enjoying roles here as a Market Researcher and Client Team Lead, I ultimately realised my future didn’t lie in retail, and so left in search of broader sector and career experience.
I received just this at Bow&Arrow - a boutique innovation and strategy consultancy (now part of Accenture). As a Strategy Lead, I ran project teams to deliver new strategies and propositions for blue-chip multinationals across a variety of sectors, from media and finance, to tech and auto.
And though the work was challenging, fast-paced and high-profile, something was missing.
Through deep reflection and supported by great coaching (as I was training at this time to become a coach myself), I realised that my role played neither to my greatest strengths nor my greatest interests.
These days I divide my time between Career Coaching for aspiring future leaders and Behaviour and Culture Change Consulting for organisations. In both cases, I find the work fascinating and continually rewarding: be that helping individuals to own and maximise their career, or helping organisations to tackle deep-rooted cultural issues.
A potted overview of my career history, but I hope a helpful one.
